Welcome to FCPS Dreamweaver CS 3 Training
What have you learned about Dreamweaver CS3?
Using style sheets can be difficult, especially if you want to have text that looks the same. But after a while you will begin to get used to it. DW CS3 helps Web developers and Webmasters create standard compliant XHTML, HTML and CSS code and programming; and also allows for the integration of programmed applications and dynamic code including ColdFusion 8, ASP, PHP and AJAX/Javascript.
Web designers can use Dreamweaver's visual mode to layout their sites and applications and easily apply and tweak CSS and other site architecture.
Web programmers can easily write and integrate ColdFusion and PHP code into their site using the DW code view. DW has built-in validation and error checking functionality to help the designer/developer manage their site as they develop it.
What you will learn in this training course:
- Make sure that you have the program installed
- Understand text and coding
- Using server technology (ColdFusion)
- Here we go Steelers!
- Testing locally / testing local and uploading remote
- Configuring FTP (to post to training.fcps.org, etc.)
- Exploring site map/files window: how to refresh view; connect to remote host; get and put files; check-out/check-in; expand to show local and remote (FTP view)
- How to create a well structured site – becoming a Web architect
- Using ColdFusion as programming application
- Using XHTML and CSS as front-end development
- Keeping your controller files at root level (.CFM)
- Structuring/wireframing site = HTML folder for HTML files; IMAGES folder for all images; CSS folder for stylesheets; JS folder for scripts; NAV for navigation menus
- Why do we need to stay organized as Web developers?
- Validation – using W3C validator to check XHTML/HTML and CSS validation
- Using Dreamweaver's built-in validation tools (but not relying on it! USE W3C!)
- Web Anatomy 101: Building Controller Files
Building HTML/XHTML files (our templates)
- How to work with images (especially as treatments, i.e., headers, logos)
- CSS: Creating CSS files and linking them via our controllers (how do you include/embed a CSS file in your site)
- Server-side modules/code: using CF server side includes – how and why do we include HTML, NAV and CSS files.
- Comments: Commenting your code – why comment? How do you do it? Difference between CF commenting and HTML comments.
- Nav menus: Creating rollover/drop-down nav menus using CSS and Javascript. Creating expanding/collapsing menus (if we have time)?
- Forms: Creating online forms using CF – creating the front end form page and processing the form page to a CF action page – using CFMAIL tag to process and mail data. How do you process form to a database? Writing a simple query.

Copyright Laws
Educators need to know current copyright laws, model good practices, and teach them to students.
Be sure to check the copyright policy of all music, images, and video before using in a project or distributing over the internet.
October 17, 7:30 a.m.-10:30a.m., PSAT all sophomores and registered juniors will take this test.
