What is a Technology Resource Teacher?
Frederick County Public Schools hired 5 certified teachers in the summer of 2007 in addition to the 2 teachers currently employeed in the Department of Instructional Technology. This crew of 7 teachers has been assigned to assist Frederick County teachers with implementing new technology into their daily classroom instruction. Their responsibilities inlcude installing and training new classroom technology carts with document cameras, data projectors, laptop computers, and DVD/VCR combo units.
Your Technology Resource Teacher can help you:
- Learn to use web design programs like DreamWeaver
- Introduce your class to new programs and web resources with modelled lessons
- Using server technology (ColdFusion)
- Testing locally / testing local and uploading remote
- Configuring FTP (to post to training.fcps.org, etc.)
- Exploring site map/files window: how to refresh view; connect to remote host; get and put files; check-out/check-in; expand to show local and remote (FTP view)
- How to create a well structured site – becoming a Web architect
- Using ColdFusion as programming application
- Using XHTML and CSS as front-end development
- Keeping your controller files at root level (.CFM)
- Structuring/wireframing site = HTML folder for HTML files; IMAGES folder for all images; CSS folder for stylesheets; JS folder for scripts; NAV for navigation menus
- Why do we need to stay organized as Web developers?
- Validation – using W3C validator to check XHTML/HTML and CSS validation
- Using Dreamweaver's built-in validation tools (but not relying on it! USE W3C!)
- Web Anatomy 101: Building Controller Files
Building HTML/XHTML files (our templates)
- How to work with images (especially as treatments, i.e., headers, logos)
- CSS: Creating CSS files and linking them via our controllers (how do you include/embed a CSS file in your site)
- Server-side modules/code: using CF server side includes – how and why do we include HTML, NAV and CSS files.
- Comments: Commenting your code – why comment? How do you do it? Difference between CF commenting and HTML comments.
- Nav menus: Creating rollover/drop-down nav menus using CSS and Javascript. Creating expanding/collapsing menus (if we have time)?
- Forms: Creating online forms using CF – creating the front end form page and processing the form page to a CF action page – using CFMAIL tag to process and mail data. How do you process form to a database? Writing a simple query.
