Science Laboratory Report Self-evaluation Questions

(Use this to edit your lab report!)

 

ü      Has the name of each section been written and underlined?

ü      Is the final copy printed by computer, or written with blue or black ink?

ü      Is the wording objective? (no terms such as “I, you, he, she,” etc.)?

 

Title: 

ü      Does the title tell what the lab is about?

 

Purpose:

ü      Does the purpose tell why the experiment was done?

ü      Is the wording objective?

 

Hypothesis:

ü      Is the expected outcome clearly stated (not in question form)?

ü      Can the hypothesis be proven by the experimental data?

ü      Is the wording objective?

 

Materials:

ü      Are all materials needed to complete the experiment listed?

ü      Have the proper names for equipment been used?

 

Procedures:

ü      Are there clear, step-by-step directions?

ü      Have the steps been written in the correct order and numbered?

ü      Are the directions impersonal (no “you, I, he, she, etc.)?

ü      Could someone follow the steps and produce the same results?

 

Data:

ü      Are all results from the experiment included?

ü      Is the data in the form of charts, tables, diagrams, etc.?

ü      Are data tables labeled properly?

ü      Are the correct units written?

 

Analysis:

ü      Are the data plotted on a graph?

ü      Are all of the calculations shown and explained?

ü      Are possible error sources discussed?

ü      Is the meaning of the results explained?

 

Conclusions:

ü      Is the original hypothesis proven or disproved by the collected data?

ü      Has the data (including appropriate units) been used to support your conclusion?

ü      Has the information been applied to another situation?
